Our pioneering admission process is designed to support veteran applicants by building a relationship between you and the University. This includes tailored individual guidance and multiple application timelines. This 4-step process is designed to offer flexible options that acknowledge your service-transition timeline while supporting you and your needs.
Please note that because UChicago is unable to confer secondary bachelor’s degrees, applicants should not yet have received a bachelor’s degree. Scholars who wish to receive additional degrees are encouraged to explore the Graham School of Continuing Studies or to contact their master’s program of choice.
- Start the process by creating a UChicago Account and planning a meeting with us – fill out an information form and begin your UChicago journey
- Create your account with all UChicago fees waived
- Sign up for one of our virtual office hours, for veteran scholars, staffed by veteran admissions staff members
- Continue the process – share your academic and military experience
- Academic Performance – Upload transcripts or self-report your most recent coursework (college, online, high school). Submitting an SAT or ACT is optional and not required for admission. In addition to being test-optional, UChicago practices a “No Harm” policy for application review when considering SAT or ACT scores. Any SAT or ACT score submitted will only be used in review if it will positively affect an applicant’s chance of admission.
- Military Performance – Share your military experience with us and how it leads you to pursue a UChicago education by filling out the UChicago Veteran Worksheet in your UChicago Account.
- Complete the Common Application or Coalition Application – Veteran scholars are welcome to apply using either the first-year or transfer application. Submit all required application materials.
- To add your voice to your application, you may upload a two-minute video directly through your UChicago Account or create a 60 to 90-second video using Glimpse by InitialView. Your recording does not need to be extensively rehearsed or polished, and the video does not need to be edited. If there is any important information relevant to your candidacy you were unable to address elsewhere in the application, please share that information here.
- Select your admissions plan – Select from our two timelines that work best for you and accommodates your transition from service in the armed forces.
- Rolling Admission Option: Our most flexible timeline that offers an admission decision within three weeks of submission, from August 1 through April 1. To be eligible for this veterans must contact Sherry Vernon directly to declare this as their admissions plan. If admitted, you commit yourself to attendance at UChicago.
- Regular Decision: A traditional timeline with admissions decisions occurring during three scheduled notification periods. If admitted, enrollment must be confirmed by May 1st for all rounds. Please note that these dates differ from our traditional first-year and transfer timelines, which may be listed on the application.
- Fall Notification: Application Deadline November 1st and notification in Mid-December
- Winter Notification: Application Deadline January 15th and notification in Early March
- Spring Notification: Application Deadline April 1st and notification in Mid-April
