Here’s a typical day for me at UChicago:
8:30 AM–I wake up and get ready for the day.
8:50 AM–I head down to the dining hall and get breakfast. I get a bacon, spinach, and cheese omelet from the omelet bar.
9:15 AM–I leave for class. My first class today is my social science core course, global society. In this class, we read different texts from different eras and cultures that typically deal with the basis and construction of societies. Today we’re discussing and comparing Julius Nyerere’s Ujamaa and Léopold Senghor’s Nationhood. This is one of my favorite courses because I love learning about other cultures and discussing the ideas presented in the texts in class.
10:50 AM–I head back to Renee Granville-Grossman to the Jannotta house lounge to hang out for a bit before heading to lunch.
11:30 AM–I head to lunch with some of my friends that are also in my next class.
12:20 PM–I walk to my next, and last, class of the day, reading cultures—this is my humanities core class. We read texts from different cultures and focus on how individuals within a culture define themselves and their culture, as well as how interactions between different cultures shapes the experiences of individuals.
1:20 PM–My friend and I walk to the gym together. I have an IM basketball game tonight so I want to get a few shots in to warm up before.
3:30 PM–I head back to RGGRC and stop by the bookstore to get a Vitamin Water with my Maroon Dollars.
4:00 PM–I do my homework for my French class. I never studied French prior to coming to UChicago, but I have really enjoyed my French classes. We’ve been studying the weather–aujourd’hui, il fait très beau!
5:00 PM–I finish up my French homework. My friend and I decide to play 2k for a while on the house TV. A few other friends walk by and eventually there’s a whole group of us playing.
5:45 PM–We head to dinner a little early so that we’re not weighed down for our basketball game. Tonight there’s ribs, mac and cheese, and broccoli. There’s also Halal, Kosher, pizza/pasta, vegetarian, sandwich, and burger stations if the main station doesn’t appeal to you.
6:30 PM–We leave the dining hall to get ready for the game back in our house lounge and then all walk over to Henry Crown Fieldhouse together.
8:00 PM–We won the game! We head to the dining hall for a victory fourth meal! Every Monday through Thursday night, there is a fourth meal served at one of the dining halls. Tonight they’re serving fried chicken and waffles which is one of my favorites!
11:00 PM–We head back to the house lounge. We all relax and hang out for a bit. Every once in a while, I’ll read a page or two from the Odyssey, we’re reading that in Reading Cultures.
11:30 PM –I head upstairs and get ready to go to bed.
