Where are classes held?
The majority of classes are held at the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park, with a few classes held at different crosstown campuses throughout each term.
How do I get to UChicago for class each week?
Cadets have a robust carpooling system. Connect with a current cadet at your school to learn about more options.
Can I talk to a current cadet to learn more about life in AFROTC?
If you would like to speak with a current cadet, you can follow our detachment on Instagram @warhawksafrotc and the Public Affairs Officer (student/cadet who would answer Instagram DMs) could help answer questions. It’s possible your DM may go to the spam box, so let airforcerotc@uchicago.edu know if you don’t hear back.
Do I have to be a student at University of Chicago to participate?
Most of our students are from cross-town schools. Our cadets enjoy a vast diversity of experience and background due to their varied school choices, extracurricular activities, and where they’re from. Every cadet is given the same opportunity, regardless of the school they attend. A crosstown agreement between the Air Force and each school is in place to afford high quality students at accredited institutions the opportunity to commission.
How do I succeed in AFROTC?
Officers are expected to lead Airmen when they commission and the Det 195 cadre aim to produce leaders of character for the US Air Force and Space Force. Cadre will specifically be teaching and assessing your skills in teamwork, critical thinking, communication (both verbal and written), emotional intelligence, and moral character.
