The University of Chicago has competed at the NCAA Division III level since it was established in 1973, and was a charter member of the University Athletic Association in 1986. Today, 500 students compete in 330 annual contests through 20 varsity teams. Building on a rich athletic tradition, varsity athletes at the University of Chicago have found success as individuals, as student-athletes, and as part of their team. They benefit from an array of facilities including Ratner Athletics Center, the Olympic-sized Myers McLoraine Pool, the Henry Crown Field House, two athletic field complexes, and fitness equipment in residence halls.
