Club and Intramural Sports

Sports aren’t just for varsity athletes at UChicago! Students play sports at club and intramural levels, too.

Club Sports

Some of UChicago’s club sports compete at the same level as varsity teams at other schools in sports like crew and ultimate Frisbee. All are for students who want to learn more in a supportive environment and to have fun—for many, no experience is necessary. A selection of club sports offered:

Intramural Sports

Students interested in representing their House in their residence hall take part in UChicago’s intramural sports program, one of the most extensive in the country. Houses compete against each other in tournaments, eventually battling a graduate school team for the coveted title of All-University Champion. Houses and larger RSOs (such as WHPK and the Maroon) put together teams to compete in volleyball, flag football, 3-on-3 basketball, wiffleball, basketball, soccer, broomball, softball, and more, while individuals and partner sports such as backgammon and chess are available as well. And intramural teams are not limited to House teams; students can sign up for and compete as part of an individual team. All told, more than 70 percent of students participate in one or more sports at UChicago, making it one of the most popular recreational activities on campus.
