If you are a full-time student at another university but would like to take advantage of the University of Chicago’s extraordinary faculty and course offerings, we welcome your application for student-at-large status. As a student-at-large, you will not be a degree candidate at the University of Chicago, but credit earned here could be transferable to your home institution. Students-at-large are admitted for up to three quarters, with confirmation of quarters subsequent to the first at the discretion of the Dean of Students in the College. Students-at-large are not eligible for University of Chicago financial aid and must enroll as a full-time student. UChicago’s student-at-large program was designed to serve visitors who are fully qualified for regular admission to the College, and candidates are held to the same admission standards to which other applicants are subject.

Students-at-large will not be eligible for transfer admission to the College. If you would like to pursue an undergraduate degree at UChicago, you should apply as a transfer student. If you already have a bachelor’s degree in any field, you may only apply as a graduate-student-at-large (even if you intend to register for undergraduate courses) through the Graham School of General Studies.
