After Graduation

Dean Boyer at Harper Library

John W. Boyer, the Martin A. Ryerson Distinguished Service Professor in History, was reappointed to a fifth term as Dean of the College in 2012.  He became Dean in 1992.

The rigor and insight inherent in a UChicago education give our students remarkable resources for their professional success, not least because they study in and engage with the exciting world metropolis of Chicago. Our students are active participants in the classroom, where they learn the skills of a scholar, and from this they take the ability to lead, to communicate and to be understood in every profession, around the world." — John W. Boyer, Dean of the College

Connected for Life

UChicago graduates have become leaders in their fields at organizations all around the world. Our alumni are not only a testament to the value of a Chicago education, but are also deeply committed to the success of current UChicago students.

Alumni know firsthand how well UChicago prepares its students. As a result, they host current students in job shadowing and career exploratory externships, sponsor internship opportunities exclusively for current undergraduates, and partner closely with the UChicago employer relations team to hire full-time staff. Alumni also sponsor career treks and networking events around the globe, and connect students to a wide range of opportunities.

Current students also take advantage of our alumni’s extensive knowledge and expertise to explore career paths and industries. Alumni engage closely with the eight UChicago Careers In programs, which provide pre-professional advising, skills-building workshops held throughout the academic year, and access to the University of Chicago’s top-ranked graduate and professional schools. A comprehensive on-line network of more than 150,000 alumni also provides boundless opportunities for mentorship and connections, and alumni and students alike benefit from a world-wide UChicago community.
